Adoption: Keeping in Touch

Baby

Imagine grandparents being able to keep in touch with a biological grandchild being adopted by another family member!  Representative Mary Margaret Oliver (District 82) has introduced legislation that would enable adoptive parents, the adoptive child, and the biological relatives of the adoptive child to enter into a post-adoptive contact agreement.  This agreement would allow the biological relatives to have contact with the child after the adoption is finished.  Such agreements could be instrumental in cases of deprivation, where the parents’ rights should be terminated because of wrong-doing, but the grandparents or other family members still want to, and should, have contact with the child.  Read the full text at http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/20132014/128149.pdf.
